Tracey is CEO and Founder of Flexiworkforce.com
Tracey is originally from Melbourne, Australia. She travelled to the UK in 1999 and settled in Glasgow.
After having children Tracey wanted to get back to work but found it hard to find full-time work that would be flexible around her childcare commitments. She launched Flexiworkforce.com in 2013 a UK-wide flexible job site and Diversity and Inclusion solution for employers.
Since launching, Flexiworkforce.com has formed partnerships with a number of government bodies and international firms including, PwC, Santander and RBS.
How did you become interested in the area of family friendly working?
Having children really showed me the lack of provision of flexible working within the workplace and highlighted the need for employers to be more upfront about the types of workplace flexibility they could/have on offer for new positions.
When I decided to start looking for work again, I spent days trawling generalist job sites to only come up with a dozen or so genuine part-time jobs. It became a job in itself! This is when I decided that something needed to be done to make searching for flexible work easy.
How does family friendly working and flexibility benefit employers?
There is a true business case for flexible working. Flexible working can help to improve retention rates dramatically while offering a point of difference for companies looking to attract the best talent to their business. By offering up some form of flexibility with each new position, employers will open them selves up to a virtually hidden talent pool, which is these skills scarce times is highly beneficial.
Additionally, there is a lot of evidence that offering flexibility increases staff productivity. Flexible working enables responsiveness and 24/7 customer support is made possible with flexible schedules.
My vision is for Flexiworkforce.com to become one of the biggest job sites in the UK. I want it to be the first port of call for anyone looking for a job that fits around their family, caring or lifestyle and for employers wanting to act on their CSR and D&I policies.
What does good work-life balance look like?
As I am an entrepreneur, I don’t have standard working hours. I just do whatever I need to do whenever I need to do it. My family always comes first and work squeezes in between that.
However I do need to be careful as I have a tendency to become so absorbed by my work that I forget to chill out and spend time with the kids and my husband!
For me, work-life balance is about working from home on a Wednesday so that I can go to the gym, spend time with my dog, cats and guinea pigs and then pick the kids up from school.
